Virginia W. Longenecker

Virginia W. (Riley) Longenecker, age 99 of Warsaw, passed away Wednesday, Sep 24, 2014 at Grace Village Retirement Community where she resided the last 16 years. Born April 9, 1915 in Akron, IN, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Effie (Heeter) Riley. On August 4 1956, Virginia married Glen Longenecker in Nappanee, IN who preceded her in death on June 21, 1976. She was a beloved teacher to generations of local students, teaching at Akron, Leesburg, and Lincoln Elementary among others. She treasured the memories of her students and derived great joy from keeping up with their lives. Virginia was a devoted member of the Warsaw First United Methodist Church where she spent many years in faithful service, was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and was involved in the Warsaw community. Surviving are two nieces, Marcia McCafferty (husband James “Andy”) of Mountain View, CA and Judith Tremaine of Palmetto, FL; a Nephew, Phillip Booher (wife Nancy) of Indianapolis; a step-grandson, Brian Neer (wife Barb) of West Lafayette. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Riley; two sisters, Dora Booher and Josephine Trefz; and two step-grandson, Brent and Bruce Neer. A memorial service will held at Grace Village Chapel at a later date. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with arrangements.
