Jayne Kain - Derf, 105, of Plymouth, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at We Belong Senior Home Plymouth, Indiana.
Born in her family home on April 18, 1920, in Plymouth, Indiana, Jayne was the daughter of her loving parents, John and Agnes (Nanik) Klapp.
She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1938. In 1940, she married Edwin Kain who unexpectedly passed in 1984. She then met and married Richard Derf. They moved to Naples, Florida where Jayne remained until 2023, after the passing of Richard in 2000.
Jane worked at Derf Jewelers and then for the Indiana State Highway Department as a secretary. She loved being involved in many activities. She was a member of the Plymouth Delta Theta Tau, the Republican GOP Party, and the Naples Conservancy. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles up until the young age of 103. She also enjoyed a game of Bridge and Mahjhong with friends and family. She enjoyed working out in the yard and spending time with all her “critters”.
Her greatest joy was spending time with family. Her and her husband Edwin had a son and daughter, Dennis Jon (Tillie) Kain of Plymouth and Vicki Lynn Woods of Indianapolis. Over the years their family grew to add 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, which filled her heart with pride and joy.
Jayne is survived by her son and daughter, 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren,
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husbands Edwin Kain (1984) and Richard Derf (2000), brother Robert “Bob” Klapp and sister Des Neignes Swisher.
Jayne will be dearly missed by all who loved her and the memories shared will live on through her family and friends.
Burial with be at New Oak Hill Cemetery Plymouth, Indiana with Pastor Chuck Kreig officiating. All services will be private.
