Terry Winteregg

Terry Lee Winteregg, beloved husband and father, of 2114 Whitetail Run Warsaw, IN passed away on February 18, 2017 at 11:40 a.m. at Mason’s Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on May 1, 1950 in Decatur, IN to Doyle and Phyllis Hoffman Winteregg on Berne, IN. On August 5, 1972, he married Kathy Habegger in Berne, IN. Soon after, they moved to Warsaw. Terry obtained an B.S. from Ball State in 1972 and a M.S. from IPFW in 1975. He began his teaching career in the fall of 1972 with Warsaw Community Schools where he taught for 39 years. He taught 5th grade at both Atwood and Eisenhower Elementary Schools. During his years at Atwood, he coached boys and girls sports. At 6’5” he was known as a gentle giant who influenced his students through his patience, kindness, and wonderful sense of humor. Teaching was a love for him that never ended, even with retirement. He attended WCC Church for the past 17 years. He participated in several sports throughout his life. He was an avid runner, biker, and golfer. Over the years he participated in marathons, mini marathons, mini triathlons, 5ks, and a number of bike tours. Above all else his true loves in life were his quiet faith in God, his relationship with his wife and daughter, and time spent with family and friends. Terry is survived by Kathy, his wife of 44 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Darcy and Andy Gilbert, Lafayette, CO; his brother and sister-in-law Randy and Diane Winteregg, Berne, IN, his brothers and sisters-in-law Randy and Rosie Habegger, Granite Schoals, TX; John and Sharie Habegger, Arvada, CO; Neale Habegger, Syracuse, IN; Dean Habegger and Elizabeth Morris, Libertyville, IL; 17 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Phyllis Winteregg, Berne, IN and sister, Linda Rasawehr, Woodburn, IN. a visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Friday April 14, 2017 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday April 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jeff Piefer officiating.
