Terry Max Cole, 82, son of Alson Roy Cole and Loise Maxine (Fawley) Cole, brother of Larry Cole and Robert Dale Cole, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Terry was born October 28, 1940, he was raised on a family farm just north of Pierceton, where his dad was a farmer.
In his childhood, Terry and his brothers, Larry and Bob, were the first Eagle Scouts in Pierceton in Troop 61. While in Eagle Scouts Terry was led by John Mowery. John instilled how to be honest, trustworthy, and a dependable person. Terry grew up enjoying historical places, mushroom hunting, and playing cards.
While growing up, he met Roger Logan, a pharmacist in town. While in the store Terry inquired about being a pharmacist, filled out an application on site, and began working. While working for Roger, Terry found his love for the pharmacy and knew that is what he wanted to do. Terry then graduated from Pierceton High School in 1959. Maxine, Terry’s mother, emphasized that her children go to college, so Terry went on to Purdue University. He graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1963, to then go on and get his master’s in pharmacy administration in 1964.
After college, Terry had his first job in Lincoln, Illinois. Not long after Lincoln, he was drafted to the Army on September 15, 1966. He did his base training in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, then was assigned to Ft. Polk in Louisiana to work as a pharmacist in the hospital. Terry was a specialist 5 while in the Army. In 1971 he returned to Lincoln, Illinois but not for long. He then went on to Indianapolis, Indiana to open Value Plus Pharmacy. In 1979 he sold Value Plus and opened Low Cost Rx. Low Cost Rx grew to three stores in the Indianapolis area. Terry finally retired in 2010.
Terry had many friends from Pierceton, Purdue, and pharmacists from his Army days. He met his first partner Judith McBride in 1973, and they lived in Indianapolis together until she passed away in 1994. Terry then reconnected with his now wife, Cindy Cole, in February of 2011. They got married in August of 2012. Cindy has 4 children, Candy (BJ) Thompson, Carrie Lemon, Steven Ulshafer (Johnny Harrison), and Carmen (Todd) Coyle. He has 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was proceeded in passing by both parents, his brother Robert, his first wife Judy, and a nephew Matt Cole.
Terry was loved by many and is now resting in peace.
A visitation with family and friends will be from 3:00 to 8:00 pm on May 12, 2023 in in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Ct. Warsaw.
Funeral services in celebration of Terry’s life will begin at 11:00 am on May 13, 2023, with a 1-hour visitation prior in the funeral chapel with Pastor Stacy Downing and his cousin Dick Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
