A Celebration of Life in Sylvia's honor will be held on Saturday June 6, 2026 from 1-4:00 pm at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, IN 46580.
Sylvia G. Watson, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 1-4 p.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw.
Born in Mooresville, North Carolina on July 8, 1940, Sylvia was the only child born to Margaret (Wiles) and Ralph Griffin. She graduated from La Jolla High School in La Jolla, CA.
Through friends, Sylvia would meet a handsome Navy soldier stationed in California. The two would marry on June 28, 1958, in San Diego, California. She worked as a telephone operator for Pacific Bell Telephone Company before welcoming two children into their family. Sylvia then was a loving and devoted homemaker, and when the children got older and she was able to take on a bus driver position.
The couple would make the move to Warsaw, Indiana in November of 1996. Sylvia babysat out of her home for many years and then worked was a home caregiver for Home Helpers, retiring at the young age of 80. Sylvia and William enjoyed square dancing, and she enjoyed going to the YMCA to swim with her girlfriends. They were former members of Walnut Creek Church before its closing, but still always met with church members every Tuesday for pizza to keep in touch.
She was loving, giving and always saw the best in everyone. She was fantastic cook and learned to make the best tamales while in California. Baking was also her specialty and quite honestly her favorite part of every meal. Sylvia made sure you always left her home overstuffed. Her grandchildren were her world and loved more than anything their surprise visits that would pack her home with love, laughs and memories.
Sylvia is dearly missed by her husband, William, of nearly 68 years; her daughter Janet (Gary) Bucher of Pierceton; her son Richard (Ann) Watson of McHenry, IL; 5 grandchildren: Brian (Colleen) Watson of Richmond Hill, GA, Jason Hunter of Las Vegas, NV, Kevin Watson of Las Vegas, NV, Steven (Ashley) Watson of Evans, GA, and Kailyn (Felix) Macedo of Cypress, CA; and 8 grandchildren: Liam and Rylee, Gannon and Haylee, and Ever, Ezequiel, Elian, and Emilia.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
