Sue Ann Huffman

November 8, 1946 — January 2, 2024

Sue Ann Huffman, a cherished member of the Warsaw community, passed away at the age of 77 on January 2, 2024, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Surrounded by her loving children, Sue's journey concluded after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on November 8, 1946, in Warsaw, Indiana, to D. Wayne and Doris (Koontz) Thomas, Sue spent her formative years on their family farm in Atwood. She attended local schools before graduating from Warsaw Community High School. Her high school years were filled with music, as she played clarinet and saxophone in the band, and was an active participant in the chorus. Sue also engaged in various extracurricular activities, including FHA and FFA, and was a beloved member of the homecoming court and a spirited cheerleader. She further demonstrated her commitment to service through her involvement in the Sub Deb Sorority.

Sue's academic journey continued at the International Business College in Fort Wayne, where she honed the skills that would guide her professional life. Her early career included a role as a secretary at Zimmers, but it was her tenure as a lead teller at KeyBank for over 35 years that many in the community will remember. Sue's warmth and dedication made her a favorite among customers and colleagues alike.

On August 7, 1966, Sue married Robert (Bob) Kent Huffman, and together they raised two children, instilling in them the values of family and community. A devoted mother and grandmother, Sue found joy in life's simple pleasures, such as spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and sharing her love for Vera Bradley sales.

Her faith played a significant role in her life. An active member of Camp Creek Church of the Brethren in Etna Green, Sue contributed in various capacities, from teaching Sunday school and VBS to serving on the finance board and Ladies Aid. Her efforts extended to the weekly church bulletin, where she would have her weekly “therapy sessions” with her BFF and numerous other church activities, embodying her spirit of service and community.

Sue's legacy lives on through her family: son Phil Huffman of Etna Green, IN; daughter Jackie (Dave) Weber of Frankfort, IN; her beloved grandchildren: Valerie (Caleb) Richison, Ben Huffman, Kyndahl Weber, and Victoria Huffman; and great-grandchildren: Lucas, Mackenzie, Carson, and Emma Richison. She is also survived by her brother Bill (Becky) Thomas, and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in passing were her parents, brother Jim Thomas, Aunt Helen Youles, and maternal grandmother Orta Koontz.

The community is invited to pay their respects at the visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Camp Creek Church of the Brethren, 7486 IN-19, Etna Green. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, with a viewing from 10-11 a.m. at the same location, officiated by Pastor Dwayne Berna and Pastor Dave Stackhouse. Sue will be laid to rest in Stony Point Cemetery, Etna Green.

In remembrance of Sue's life and legacy, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church in lieu of flowers. Her life, marked by love, service, and community, will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
