Steven Lee Carman

Steven Lee Carman, age 51, of 36 EMS B60 LN, Warsaw, IN passed away December 18, 2013 at 9:58 PM. He was born February 23, 1962 in Bloomington, IN. to Dr. Richard L. Carman and then wife Sandra. He moved with his parents to Warsaw, IN August of that year. He attended grade school in Warsaw but wanted to and did attend Culver Military Academy for high school until his senior year when he returned to Warsaw and graduated from Warsaw High School in 1980. He was an excellent student. During summers of his youth he mowed several yards in the Country Club Drive area wearing out two of his dad’s mowers. He also installed, maintained, and removed piers on the lakes in Warsaw. By 1989 he got serious and formed Carman Pier on land purchased in the North Webster area at 4883 N 700 E Leesburg, IN. He and his half-brother Chris have increased the business to 10 fulltime and several seasonal employees who service hundreds of customers on many lakes in the area. Last year they were honored with an award from their shore station distributor for the highest volume of product purchased from their distribution site. He was a member of AA and very active in their organization, including visiting jail inmates on Sunday evenings and counseling them on ways to improve their lives and ministering to them on accepting Christ. He enjoyed mentoring to grade school children who struggled in the classroom and attempted to help them with their ability to learn. They looked forward to his visits. His hobbies included golf, camping with his daughters, and river rafting in Tennessee. His father and stepmother, Phyllis, and a half-brother, Chris, survive him. Steve fathered two daughters, Lilly who will soon be 7 and sister Molly who is 5. His mother, Sandra, preceded him in death; both paternal and maternal sets of grandparents, a brother two years older, Tim, in 1997. Calling hours are scheduled for 1:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, December 27, 2013 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, IN. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the North Webster Church of God, North Webster, IN. Pastors Erik Ohman and Jeff Boyer will conduct the services.
