Steve Dzuba

Steve Dzuba, 96 of Winona Lake, Indiana, passed away at 7:20 am on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw. On August 8, 1915, Steve was born in Endicott, New York to Michael and Teresa (Mikalasko) Dzuba. He married Helen Van Doran on July 18, 1942 in Janesville, Wisconsin. Steve worked for Schrader Auto Parts Store, Warsaw as an auto parts salesman for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He and his wife wintered in Mt. Dora Florida and lived in the Warsaw area during the summer months. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw, Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #49, Warsaw. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a Glider Pilot Chief Instructor for the 38th Troop Carrier Command in Laurinburg, North Carolina. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Steve is survived by his wife, Helen Dzuba, Winona Lake; 2 daughters, Nancy (and spouse Robert) Gast, Warsaw and Lori (and spouse Gregory) Slater, Warsaw; 2 sons, John (and spouse Maria) Dzuba, Mirana, Arizona and Tom (and spouse Penny) Dzuba, Deltona, Florida; 7 granddaughters; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Robert L. Gast; 2 brothers, Charles and George Dzuba and a sister, Anna McCabe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 3, 2011 with Father Phil DeVolder officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126, Warsaw. Visitation hours will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Friday, December 2, 2011 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. There will be a rosary at 8:00 pm, Friday at the funeral chapel. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to American Diabetes Association or to Sacred Heart School, 135 North Harrison Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580.
