Sammie Gibson, 80 of Warsaw and formerly Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away at 4:01 pm Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. On March 29, 1933, he was born in Floyd County, Kentucky to Richard and Aggie (Poe) Gibson. He was united in marriage to Edna Gibson, who preceded him in death on January 25, 2008. He had lived most of his life in Warsaw, until moving to Scottsburg in 1982. He worked for Dalton Foundry and Dalton Inc., Warsaw then he retired from Morgan Cannery, Austin, Indiana. Sammie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 - 1953. He is survived by six children, Carol Gibson (and spouse Jim) Savage, Warsaw, Larry (and spouse Cheryl Jean) Gibson, Claypool, Donald (and spouse Cheryl Jo) Gibson, Knoxville, Tennessee, Samantha Gibson Rogers, Silver Lake, Kent Gault, Bloomington and Dawn Gault (and spouse Leonard) Gagnon, Silver Lake; four sisters, Betty (and spouse Pete) Zimmerman, Columbia City, Becky (and spouse Gary) Krotke, Laketon, Joyce (and spouse Carl) Arnett, Warsaw and Dottie (and spouse Bill) Teeter, North Manchester; one brother, Charlie (and spouse Renee) Gibson, Warsaw and fifteen grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Janie Presley and three brothers, Richard Gibson Jr., Jim Gibson and Arnold Gibson. A graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 14, 2014 in Scottsburg Cemetery, Scottsburg with military honors by the Crothersville American Legion. Visitation hours will be from 4:00 - 8:00 pm Monday, January 13, 2014 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.
