Russell H. Long, 86, of 944 Jones Road Gas City, Indiana, died on 10/18/2009 at 10:18 am at his residence. He was born on May 1, 1923 in Marshall County, Indiana. Russell was born to Frederick and Fern (Pomeroy) Long. He was formerly a resident of Warsaw until moving to Gas City, Indiana, 9 years ago.he married Ester Shand on April 20, 1946 in Warsaw and was a self employed owner of Long's Custom Digging, Warsaw.Russell served in the U.S. Marine Corp. as a Corporal. He served in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater from 1942 - 1946.He attended First United Methodist Church and Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, Warsaw. He was a member of Winona Lake Lions Club; American Legion Post #10, Marion, Indiana; Warsaw Square Dancing Club; East Central Indiana Carvers Club and Fisherman's National Hall of Fame. He holds the Indiana record for landing the largest Carp from Pike Lake, Warsaw, Indiana.Russell is survived by his Wife; Ester Long, Gas City, Indiana2 Daughters; Mrs. Dennis (Linda) Johnson, Gas City, IndianaMrs. Bob (Pat) Craig, Warsaw, Indiana1 Son; Larry (Diana) Long, Warsaw, Indiana7 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren. Services will be held at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, Indiana on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 11:00 am with Pastor Doug Davies officiating.. Calling hours will be 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral chapel on Tuesday, October 20, 2009. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, Indiana. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, Indiana is in charge of arrangements. The family requests all memorial contributions be made to American Legion Post #49, Nursing Scholarship Fund, 301 North Buffalo Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580.
