Roberta “Bobbie” Edmundson Rose, 80, of Oswego, Indiana, died on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, after a short illness. Roberta was born in Anderson, Indiana on December 11, 1941, to the late William C. and Laura (Rarick) Edmundson the first of four children. She married Thomas Rose in Tucson, Arizona in 1964. Her son Daniel was born in Tucson. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Arizona and her medical degree from University of Arizona Medical School. Returning to Indiana in 1981 as the state’s first female orthopedic surgeon she established a well-respected practice in Warsaw that she upheld for thirty years. She always met each of her patients with the same big heart. After retirement in 2011 she married her longtime friend Mark Burks in Warsaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Rose, and their son Daniel in 2019, and by her brother William A. Edmundson. Roberta will be lovingly remembered by her husband Mark Burks; brothers Daniel (Lorna) Edmundson of Sharon, CT, and James (Judi) Edmundson of Bristol, IN; sisters-in-law Sally (William A.) of Anderson, and Susan (James) of Elkhart; and their families – four nephews, two nieces, three grand-nephews and a grand-niece. Her spirit and her example are an inspiration and a bright beacon of caring humanity to family, friends and patients. She loved cats, singing, literature, prime rib was her favorite and she enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for any of her friends and family who would appear. The funeral service will be Saturday September 10, 2022, at 11:00am at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Ct. Warsaw. A visitation with family and friends will be held 2 hours prior to the service from 9-11am in the funeral chapel.
