SERVICE UPDATE:


A funeral service in celebration of Richard’s life will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 832 E Center St, Warsaw, IN 46580, with Pastor Andrea Texeira officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors.


Richard Dobbins, 94, of Warsaw, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023.

Born January 18, 1929 in Warsaw, Indiana to Jackson T. Dobbins (Warsaw Cut Class) and Ary

Irene Dobbins (Peggy Fox). Graduated Class of 1947 from Warsaw High School. Enlisted in the

United States Army February of 1949.


Dick served 30 years, 2 months, and 28 days. The majority of his assignments were with

American Embassies in the Defense Attache Office. During his time in the military his

assignments included Germany, Russia, Hong Kong, Nepal, Ecuador, Jordan, Sudan, Burma

and the Philippines. His final years of service were as an instructor at the Defense Intelligence

School, Washington, D.C. Dick retired from the US Army May1, 1979, as a CWO4.


Upon retirement he returned to Warsaw where he served his community. He actively

volunteered with the American Red Cross (Blood Mobiles), Kiwanis, Mobile Meals, and Boy

Scouts of America. He held memberships with the American Legion, VFW, Elks and was a

Board Member of the Warsaw Historical Society. He was a lifelong member of Warsaw Trinity

United Methodist Church.


He is survived by his son, Richard J. Dobbins (Diane Williams), granddaughter, Laura A. Dobbins (Gunnery Sergeant (USMC) Joseph Cobb), grandson, Eric Dobbins (Nicole Bowen), great grandchildren Lyla and Ryder Dobbins, brother Ted Dobbins, and his high school sweet heart and later life companion Phyllis Kirkendall. Dick was preceded in death by his wife Laura F. Dobbins.


The family kindly request the memorial donations be made to American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, Kiwanis, or Mobile Meals.
