Rev. Roy C. Blake Jr.

Roy C. Blake Jr., 94, of Warsaw, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021  in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. Born July 15, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York, Roy was the son of Roy C. Blake Sr. and Catherine (Ryan) Blake. He proudly served his country as a veteran of WWII and served as a medic in the US Navy from 1945-1947.  He was a graduate of the University of Maine, Nyack Bible College and Dallas Theological Seminary.  Roy was known mostly as “The Rev”.  He pastored churches in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Indiana.  He worked full time for Warsaw Community Schools from 1981-1992 after which he was employed as a substitute teacher and did volunteer work for Warsaw Community High School sporting events.  Roy officiated football, baseball, softball, and wrestling for the Northern Indiana Officials Association. He was a conference speaker in Haiti, Bolivia, Germany & Rutgers University InterVarsity Fellowship and was the chaplain for the American Legion Post 49, Warsaw.  In 2017, Blake was awarded the Order of Kosciuszko. This award, given annually by the Salvation Army, was the highest honor at that time in Kosciusko County. His volunteer work included the Salvation Army, Police Chaplin, Sports Chaplin, and the American Legion Post 49 Chaplin. A room in the sporting complex at Warsaw Community High School had been dedicated in his name. Roy will be remembered and cherished by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen Blake of Warsaw;  children, Stephen Blake of Pennsylvania, Roy C. Blake III of Florida, Lynda Blake Harris of San Diego, CA, Kory M. Blake of Maryland, and Chris A. Blake of Warsaw; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by 2 children. A visitation is planned from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday September 16, 2021 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A funeral service in celebration of his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday September 17, 2021 in the funeral chapel. Rev. Joshua Goepfrich will be officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Masks are optional, and social distancing is encouraged. No food is permitted at this time.
