Rene S. Nine, age 95, of Warsaw, Indiana passed away October 11, 2011 at 3:45 PM in his residence. He was born January 13, 1916 in Cherbourg, France to Hurless and Ernestine P. (Saunier) Nine.Rene was a 65 year resident of Warsaw. On October 16, 1942 in Knoxville, TN he was united in marriage to Willie Hugh Nine. Wille preceded him on March 22, 2006. Rene faithfully served his country in World War II as a volunteer entering service in 1944 with the United States Army Air Corps as Lieutenant Pilot with the 398th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. He piloted 20 missions over Germany and was awarded 6 Bronze Air Medals, 1 Silver Air Medal and Presidential Unit Citations. After World War II he transferred to the United States Air Force (Reserve) (formed on December 18, 1947 by the National Security Act) serving 3 active tours of duty while stationed at Grissom (Bunker Hill) Air Force Base. Rene retired from the United States Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel in January of 1976 after 32 years of service. He was member of the John C. Peterson Post #49 of the American Legion Warsaw, IN and a member of the Air Force Officer Reserve Association. Rene was the owner of Schrader’s Auto Parts, with locations in Warsaw, Columbia City and Elkhart, Indiana before retiring in 1990. Rene is survived by his brother-in-law Ledford (spouse Merline) Hensley of Warsaw, IN, nieces Ruby Schooley of San Diego, CA, Toni Archer of Warsaw, IN, Cindy (spouse Rick) Heckaman of Winona Lake, IN, Marie (spouse Tim) Lowman of Warsaw, IN and Lisa (spouse Chris) Mahan of Warsaw, IN; and nephews Marvin (spouse Kim) Hensley and Roland (spouse Michele) Hebert of France. In addition, several great-nieces and nephews survive. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday October 14, 2011 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel Warsaw, IN. Graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery Knoxville, TN on Monday October 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM with full military honors.
