Warsaw

Peter L. Chinworth, 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born on November 15, 1953, at Selfridge Army Base in Michigan, the son of the late John and Jane (McConnell) Chinworth. Peter graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1972 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Peter built a successful and diverse career, beginning with United Telephone Company and Sprint as a Customer Service Manager. In 1989, he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where he served as an Operations Manager. In 1994, his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he continued his work in customer service leadership at Sprint. He later served as Director of Operational Excellence at Marsh McClennan in New York City.

In 2005, Peter returned to Indiana to care for his mother, a reflection of his deep loyalty and love for family. During this time, he pursued a new calling, earning an associate degree in nursing from Ivy Tech. He completed his career at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital in Warsaw as Clinical Manager of Hospitalists and Patient Experience. Peter was instrumental in driving improvements in patient care and worked with a team to implement stroke care processes that contributed to the hospital achieving Primary Stroke Center accreditation.

Peter was a fun-loving jokester who could bring laughter into any room, yet he was also a fierce advocate for the underdog, always standing up for others with quiet strength and conviction. He approached life with a thoughtful and meticulous nature, paying close attention to the little things in a way that made people feel seen, cared for and valued.

He enjoyed golfing, listening to classic rock, and cooking, and he was a devoted Georgia Bulldogs football fan. Peter had a special love for dogs and found joy in their companionship.

A longtime Methodist, Peter later converted to Catholicism and attended St. Francis Xavier Parish in Pierceton, Indiana. He supported the Livestrong Foundation, the United Way, and participated in mission work in Venezuela and Jamaica through his church over the years.

He is survived by his daughters, Emily Chinworth and Erica Smith (Mike) of Georgia; his beloved granddaughters, Rowan and Piper Smith; his siblings, Sally Kolar (Tim), Susan Martig, and Linda Wakeland (Mike); several nieces and nephews; his longtime partner and best friend, Denise Bronsing; her children, Lori Martinez (Roman) and Bryan Bronsing; his dog, Coco; several granddogs; and his former wife, Debra Chinworth Brock.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Maverick Peter Smith.

Per his wishes, no formal service will be held. In honor of Peter’s life, donations in his memory may be made to a Catholic charity of your choice, such as Catholic Charities USA at https://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org, a national organization that serves people in need across the United States.
