Norman E. Hankins

Norman E. Hankins, 92 of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at 1:12 pm Thursday, September 15, 2016 in Millers Merry Manor, Warsaw, Indiana. On June 19, 1924, he was born in Warsaw to Marvin and Marie (Webber) Hankins. Norman was united in marriage to F. Martha Hanson on March 9, 1951 in Warsaw, who preceded him in death on January 11, 2014. In 1943, he was class officer and graduate of Warsaw High School. While a senior, he was a fullback on the football team that went undefeated 7-0 and he was a guard on the basketball team that still holds the school record for most wins in a row at 25 games. A lifetime resident of Warsaw, Norman served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the 54th General Hospital Unit as a medical technician. He worked for the U.S. Post Office, as a clerk. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Warsaw and a lifetime member of American Legion Post #49, Warsaw. Norman is survived by two sons, Michael A. (and spouse Andrea) Hankins, Belton, Texas and Larry (and spouse Kimberly) Hankins, Reno, Nevada; four grandsons, Randall (and spouse Denise) Hankins, Warsaw, Jefferson (and spouse Miranda) Hankins, Warsaw, Daniel (and spouse Angela) Hankins, Cedar Park, Texas and Tobias Hankins, San Diego, California; eight great grandchildren, Adele, Alan, Mathew, Simon, Andrew, Alexa, Lucy and Lorelei; his sister, Edna Marie Snyder, Marion. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Willard “Bill” Hankins and two sisters, Elva Evans and Clara Mae Michael. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Pastor Gary Boschain officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw with full military honors by the American Legion Post #49, VFW Post #1126 and the Army Funeral Honor Guard. Visitation hours will be from 10:00 - 12:00 noon, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, Danny Pitzer Scholarship Fund, 115 Park Ridge Drive, Warsaw, Indiana 46580.
