Neal Martin Carlson, 91, Winona Lake, passed away at 7AM, April 2, 2017 in his home. He was born April 5, 1925 in South Bend, Indiana to Frank M. and Ellen A. Anderson Carlson. On June 18, 1950 at Badger Grove, Brookston, Indiana, he married Joy M. Morehouse, who survives in Winona Lake, Indiana . He was a 1943 graduate of Greene Township High School, near North Liberty, Indiana and graduated from Purdue University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics, where he was a member of Alpha Zeta and Ceres Fraternities. During 1944 46 he served his country in the Maritime Service. He graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at University of Wisconsin and Trust Management School at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. Neal started his career at the Bank of Wolcott before moving to Warsaw in 1955 to work at First National Bank of Warsaw. He held various positions with the last sixteen years as President, retiring in March 1992. He served on the Kosciusko County Communitys Foundation board of directors from 1972 to 1997 and as the first Executive Director from 1990 to 1995. Other notable achievements include 1976 Warsaw Man of the Year, 1979 Silver Beaver Award, Anthony Wayne Council of Boy Scouts of America, the Sagamore of the Wabash Award in 1997, and 2017 creation of the Neal and Joy Carlson Legacy Society from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation. Neal served the business and community interests by participation and leadership on numerous boards and committees including United Way, Indiana Landmarks, United Telephone and Grace College Seminary. His social affiliations included Kiwanis Club, Kosciusko Historical Society, and Kosciusko Purdue Alumni Association. Neal also was a scoutmaster and literacy mentor. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church serving in many leadership positions since 1955. Also surviving are three children: Sue ( spouse Max) Mock, Warsaw; Jon ( spouse Susan) Carlson, San Antonio, Texas; and Jim ( spouse Missy) Carlson, Mooresville, North Carolina. In addition, seven grandchildren survive and include Carmen (spouse Justin) Elliott, Warsaw; Evan Mock, San Diego, California; Brent (spouse Ashley) Mock, Nashville, Tennessee; Nick (spouse Stephanie) Huntington, Seattle, Washington; Taylor Carlson, Seattle, Washington; Hannah and Mia Carlson, Mooresville, North Carolina; and five great-grandchildren Carrie and Emily Elliott, Warsaw; Ethan Huntington, Seattle, Washington; and Edie and Julian Mock, Nashville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn. Services will be 11AM Monday, April 10th at First United Methodist Church of Warsaw with Pastor Mark Need and Rev. LeRoy Wise officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 9th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
