Nathan D. Shepherd

July 13, 1937 — November 14, 2017

Nathan D. Shepherd, 80, Warsaw, passed away on Nov. 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in David, Kentucky to Sylvester and Nancy (Nelson) Shepherd on July 13, 1937. He was raised in Liberty Mills and went to Manchester High School. He was married to Juanita (Prater) on May 29, 1966 and they spent 51 wonderful years together. At 17, Nathan began his service in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona for four years. Nathan worked at Dalton Foundry in Warsaw for 33 years and for the Kosciusko County courthouse for four years. He was a trustee at God’s Highway to Heaven for 35 years. His favorite hobbies included mowing, working on tractors, racing cars, spending time with his family and being an active member in the church. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Shepherd, Warsaw; brothers John and Dorothy Shepherd, Wabash; Abe and Laura Shepherd, Silver Lake; children Krystal and Burt Scarlett, Peru; Dale and Mary Shepherd, Peru; Julie and Vaughn Avery, Michigan; Nancy and Brian Marshall, Milford; Mindi and Rodney Poehler, Frankfort, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, many loving family members and his church family. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Mchatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at God’s Highway to Heaven with Reverend Robert “Bob” Brown officiating. with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made on Nathan’s behalf to God’s Highway to Heaven Church, 555 Webber St., Warsaw, Indiana 46580 and the K21 Health Foundation Cancer Care Fund, P.O. Box 1810, Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1810.
