It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael John DeWitt, a man of boundless ambition, thrill seeker, and a heart full of love. Born on April 14, 1967, Mike lived a life that was a testament to the power of determination, vision, and an unbreakable spirit.
From a young age, Mike demonstrated a remarkable drive and passion that made him stand out. This relentless determination was deeply influenced by his father, Larry DeWitt, affectionately known as “Big Lar,” who played a pivotal role in shaping Mike’s ambitious spirit. “Big Lar’s” guidance and example instilled in Mike an unshakable work ethic and an unwavering commitment to excellence that would define his life. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to create and lead successful ventures, each one a reflection of his innovative mind and relentless work ethic. But beyond his accomplishments, it was his leadership that truly defined him. Mike was not just a boss or a business owner; he was a mentor, a guide, and a source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The role Mike cherished most was that of a father. He was a devoted and loving parent, whose greatest joy came from his children, Lucas and Landyn. He instilled in them the values he lived by—most important of all, family. His legacy will continue to live on through them, as they carry forward the lessons and love he so generously shared.
Mike left an indelible mark on every project he touched, from the shores of Lake Wawasee to the rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Ian devastated Fort Myers Beach. His dedication to his craft was evident in the countless homes that bear his signature style, each a testament to his passion and commitment.
Mike was a creator of spaces that brought beauty, comfort, and inspiration to all who inhabited them. His tireless work in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian demonstrated his deep compassion and determination to restore not just structures, but the spirit of the beach.
As a friend, Mike possessed the rare ability to light up any room with his presence, always ready with a good laugh and the perfect words at just the right time. His passion for motorsports was unmistakable, and being on the water brought him pure, unmatched joy.
He will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched through his remarkable talent and generous heart.
Surviving are his 2 sons Lucas and Landyn DeWitt, his mother Barb DeWitt, his sister Marti (Terry) Likens , his companion Stephanie Fine and her 2 children Darik(Alexis)and Savana Fine, his many nieces and nephews and his childhood friend Kevin. He was preceded in death by his father Larry, his brother, Mark and his niece Tara.
Rest in peace, Mike. Your boldness, fearlessness, and charm will never be forgotten. You led a life that was truly remarkable, and you will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on October 5, 2024 at The Owls Nest from 11:30a-2:30p.
