Michael L. Montgomery, 82, passed away on Sunday May 18, 2025 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne.

Mike was born in Bremen, Indiana on October 27, 1942 to Lewis Montgomery and Helen (Moore) Wozniak.

He enlisted into the U.S. Navy when he was 16 and through them, he got his high school diploma. He served until his Honorable Discharge in 1965. Mike was aboard the U.S.S. Lake Champlain (CG57) during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the Atlantic Ocean. He was a member of the Bourbon American Legion Post 424 until he transferred to the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster.

In her Lake Chapman home in Warsaw, Mike took Susan (Corbin) Heath as his wife on May 16, 1987, with both of their mother’s there to be a part of their special day. The two would blend their families to make one big, happy family.

Mike owned U.S. Bulk in Bourbon and served as a volunteer firefighter. He also owned Mike’s & Sue’s Barbee Landing in Warsaw for 5 years. He would retire and spend a lot of his time at his comfort place, home. Mike enjoyed mowing their 20 acres and making woodworking gifts, such as stools and coat racks, for his family as a hobby. He also owned and enjoyed flying his ultra lite aircraft around Mentone and Warsaw.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 38 wonderful years, Sue; his children, Lori Dillon of South Bend and Michael “Todd” (Drema) Montgomery of Burket; step-children: Victoria (Tiny) Rutledge of Warsaw, James D. “Jim” Heath of Warsaw, Michael (Tracy) Heath of Warsaw and son-in-law Terry Williams of Leesburg; sister, June McCorkle of North Webster; and half-sisters: Kandy Schmucker of North Webster, Christine (Mike) Clark of Milford, Jenifer (Jim) Shear of Leesburg, Karen Frick of North Webster, Pam Loftus of Granger, Betty Hawthorne of Massillon, OH, and Tami Miller of Warsaw.

Also surviving are their grandchildren: Wesley Sheetz, Justin Creamer, Cody Heisler, Corey Heisler, Christa Croy, Katelyn Heath, Kirsten Kellogg, James M. Heath, Tara Williams and Caroline Brown as well as 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gary Montgomery, and step-daughter Laura Williams.

A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at a later date.
