Melvin Miller, 80, of 109 North Buffalo Street, Burket, Indiana 46508, died on 9/18/2009 at 12:25 AM at his residence. He was born on October 28, 1928 in Glo, Kentucky. Melvin's parents were the late Joe P. and Ella (Young) Miller. He has lived in Manton and Hueysville Kentucky, South Whitley and Burket, Indiana. He married Thelma Stephens on January 18, 1947 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky (she precedes), then he married Emma Jean Layne Perkins on November 7, 1987 in Burket, Indiana. (she survives). Melvin worked in a Coalmine,a Boat Factory, Dalton Foundry, Trailer Factory, Johnson Brothers Sign Company and Grpco Company. He enjoyed Coon Hunting, working with electronics and tinkering with old lawn mowers. Melvin is survived by his wife Emma Jean Layne Miller , Burket, Indiana. Daughters Anna Jean (Lorenza) Hurd of Mentone, Indiana; Arlene (Larry) Sroufe of Larwill, Indiana; Gloria (Ron) Dafforn of Columbia City, Indiana; Gale (Larry) Burkhart of Warsaw, Indiana; and Saundra (Jack) Ott of Estero, Florida.Sons Melvin Jr. (Jean) Miller of Pierceton, Indiana; Micheal Miller ( Pauline Haynes) of Wabash, Indiana; Arthur Miller ( Linda Colter ) of Columbia City, Indiana and Rick (Kristy) Miller of South Whitley, Indiana.17 Grandchildren27 Great Grandchildren3 Sisters Faye Roecker of Marion, Ohio; Shirley Dingus of Martin, Kentucky and Darla Hicks of Morral, Ohio 7 Step Children Ralph Perkins, Toni Caudill, John Perkins, Jackie Driscoll, Donna Burkett, Lisa Chaplin and Kevin Perkins.15 Step Grandchildren6 Step Great Grandchildren Melvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Stephens, his Parents, a Brother, Arthur Miller, a Sister, Marie Smith and a Grandson, Tommy Miller Pastor Terry Bradford will be conducting the services. Services will be held at First Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County, Claypool on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Calling hours will be 1-5 pm on Sunday, September 20, 2009. Burial will be at Palestine Cemetery - Palestine, IN. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel - Warsaw is in charge of arrangements.
