Melvin J. Konkle, 91 of Claypool, IN. passed away September 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Logansport, IN. He was born on September 6, 1923 to James Melvin and Martha Ann (Wyland) Konkle in Clunette, IN. A lifetime Kosciusko County Resident, He was united in marriage to Edith “Ina” Moore on August 31, 1943 in Warsaw, recently celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. Edith passed away on February 8, 2014. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a Sergeant in the European -African Theater as a mechanic. He served from February 17, 1943 and was discharged in 1945 receiving the rank of Sargent. He was a member of the Claypool United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Warsaw Masonic Lodge #83, Fort Wayne Valley Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine Temple, Ft. Wayne, IN, Order of Eastern Star 88, Warsaw, Kosciusko County Shrine Club, Warsaw, Claypool Lions Club and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post # 49 and VFW Post # 1126 both of Warsaw. He worked for the Indiana Highway Department as a mechanic and retired from Bristol Myers in 1986 where he was machinist and a tool and die maker. Melvin is survived by his two sons, Dan (and spouse Clara) Konkle of Herber Springs, AR and Gale (and spouse Nancy) Konkle of Logansport, IN; grandchildren, Jonathon, David, Michael and Douglas Konkle; Carey Waters, and Brad, Eric, and Joel Konkle and nine great- grandchildren. A son George in 1986 and 11 siblings preceded him. Visitation will be on Thursday September 11, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. conducted by the Warsaw Masonic Lodge #83 in the Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday September 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Pastor Michael Settles of the Claypool United Methodist Church will officiate the services. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery Claypool, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to: Shiners Hospitals for Children, Chicago Hospital Unit 2900 Rocky Point DriveTampa Florida, 33607.
