Maynard G. Wade, 94, passed away peacefully with his family near his bedside at 10:20 p.m. at Stillwater Hospice in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Maynard was born on May 11, 1929 in Silver Lake, Indiana to Charles and Naomi (Ulshafer) Wade. He graduated from Silver Lake High School and was in the orchestra big band “Sentimental Seven”.
He met the love of his life when he was 14 and working at a skating rink. When she chose to love him too, he promised to love her endlessly. In Silver Lake, Indiana on January 1, 1949, Maynard married Gloria Jean Woods.
Maynard served in the U.S. Army during peacetime until his Honorable Discharge in 1957.
He owned and operated Maynard Wade Construction, building several homes in Warsaw, and Colonial Woodcraft, making and playing the dulcimer. Gloria and he wintered in Florida and enjoyed running their craft businesses.
Maynard was a Boy Scout Leader in Warsaw for several years, making lasting friendships throughout the years. He was part of many “First Fridays” selling his dulcimers and wooden guns. In his later years he really enjoyed bird watching. He was patient, never got angry and was a staunch Democrat. His family was his pride and joy, very proud of them and their accomplishments.
He is survived by his daughter Janet (Larry) Miller of Leesburg and son David (Stephen Chambers) Wade of Bloomington, IN; grandchildren Naomi (Tim) Collins, Tacy (Marty) Radowski; great-grandchildren Hannah and Alivia Collins and Caitlyn and Geneva Radowski and great-great grandson Emmit Collins.
Maynard was preceded in death by his wife Gloria in 2017, his parents, and three brothers.
Visitation will be held form 11-1 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel.
Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
