Margaret Ann (Peg) Shaffer, 92, of Kaleva, MI, Mexico Beach, FL and Akron, IN, passed away at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, IN at 9:55 pm onFebruary 10, 2014. She was born on August 17, 1921 in Washington DC to Joseph andMargaret (DeForge) Manilla. On February 16, 1940 in Baltimore, MD, she married Carl Frederick. Shaffer who preceded her in death on July 15, 2006. Peg lived an active and interesting life. In addition to her love for her family she was anavid walker and outdoors woman. She loved fishing, particularly trout fishing in Michiganand flounder fishing in Florida. Despite being a petite woman, she was a very goodamateur horseshoe competitor, having won over 50 tournaments, often as mixeddoubles with her husband Fred. Peg was a very good landscape artist, working primary in oils. Her work decorates the walls in the homes of her children and many of her friends.She also loved feeding the birds and working in her garden, her flowers were always theenvy of the neighborhood. She has been often described by family and friends as kind,patient, caring and tough and having a never give up attitude. She is survived by nine children, Charlie (and Sharon) Shaffer, Kaleva, MI; Joe (andBarb) Shaffer, Helena, MT; Jim (and Maxine) Shaffer, Akron, IN; John (and Marlene)Shaffer, Winter Garden, FL; Nancy (and Mike) Sabraski, MN; Janet (and Gary)Schumaker, Aurora, IL; Cheri (and Brian) Hirn, Saginaw, MI; Stephen (and Debra)Shaffer, Warsaw and Cathy (and Jim) Jacobsen, Ramsey, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son Tom Shaffer. A memorial service for family and friends will be held in April in Warsaw, IN. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is handling the arrangements.
