Lorenza “Ramsey” Hurd, 71 of Mentone, Indiana passed away at 8:15 pm, March 24, 2012 at Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart, Indiana. On February 28, 1941, he was born to Isom and Worlie (Click) Hurd in Ivel, Kentucky. He married Anna Jean Miller on December 31, 1965 in Packerton, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1969. Lorenza lived in Burket for 28 years until moving to Fort Wayne, where he lived for 4 years. He then moved to his current residence in Mentone. He worked for Dalton Foundry, Warsaw for 20 years, retiring in 1991. Lorenza was Pastor at Tippecanoe Free Will Baptist Church from 1984-1987 and then Bethel Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Fort Wayne fom 2001-2006. He then became a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, Warsaw. Lorenza is survived by his wife, Anna Jean Miller Hurd, Mentone; three sons, Randy Lee (and spouse Tammy) Hurd, Burket; Jeffrey Lynn (and spouse Kimberly) Hurd, Mentone and David Allen (and spouse Belynda) Hurd, South Whitley; one sister, Mary Spencer, Morral, Ohio; four brothers, Shular Hurd, Ivel, Kentucky; Graden Hurd, Elkhart; Donald Hurd, Coffeeville, Oklahoma and Gary T. Hurd, Warsaw and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathern Sluss and Esta Freeman; two brothers, Joe Ed Hurd and Arnold Gordon Hurd. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 10:00 am at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, Warsaw with Pastor David Cripe and Pastor Terry Bradford officiating. Burial will follow at Palestine Cemetery, Palestine. Visitation hours will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, Warsaw. Memorial contributions are to be made to Lorenza “Ramsey” Hurd Funeral Fund, C/o Anna Jean Miller Hurd.
