Lemuel 'Red' Burklund, 80, of Warsaw, Indiana, died on 1/9/2011 at 6:03 am at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw, In. He was born on January 19, 1930 in Wall Twp., Ford County, Illinois. Lemuel was the son of Carl Samuel and Alice B. (Ramsey) Burklund. In 1947, he graduated from Paxton Community High School, Paxton, Illinois.He worked on his father's farm until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1951. He received his commission as 2nd Lieutenant in August of 1952 and then served in Korea from 1953 - 1955. he was then reassigned as 1st Lieutenant in 1956.He settled in Denver, Colorado and then he took a job transfer to Houston, Texas, living in the town of Fresno, Texas.He also served as a Texas State Certified Volunteer Fire Chief and EMT for 7 years.Lemuel is survived by a Sister, Sue Burklund, Ballwin, Missouri and 2 Cousins, Gerald Burklund of Paxton, Illinois and Richard Anstrom of Gifford, Illinois. Service will be at a later date in Paxton, Illinois. Burial will be at a later date. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, Indiana is in charge of arrangements.
