Larry W. Baker, born February 11, 1952, to Max and Mary Lou (Hyre) Baker, entered eternal rest in the presence of the Lord on May 31, 2026, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, after a life filled with love, faith, and service to others.
Larry married the love of his life, Rita (Schlicht) Baker, On May 15, 1992. Together they share many years of love, laughter, and devotion to God.
Larry dedicated 27 years of service to the Warsaw Fire Department, retiring in 2004 as Assistant Fire Chief. Throughout his distinguished career, he was instrumental in establishing the HazMat Team for Kosciusko County. His commitment to public safety and excellence earned him numerous honors, including HazMat of the Year, multiple time winner of Fireman of the Year, and other awards recognizing his outstanding service and leadership.
Beyond his firefighting career, Larry pursued many unique interests. He enjoyed raising lions, tigers, and cougars and worked with PTS Professional Track Services as a member of the crash crew at IHRA drag races. While he took great pride in his professional accomplishments, Larry was most proud of his recent celebration of 15 years with his men’s Martins Friday Bible study, a statement to his enduring faith and fellowship.
Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Rita Baker; his daughters, Jennifer (Dave) Baker of Warsaw, Indiana, and Bianca (Aren) Baker of Nappanee, Indiana; his stepdaughters, Kisten (Larry) Born of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Heather Reichert of Plymouth, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
His is also survived by his brothers, Gary Baker of Austin, Texas, and Jim (Theresa) Baker of Round Lake, Illinois, John Baker of North Webster, and his sister-in-law, Cheryl Baker of Burket, Indiana.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Mary Lou Baker, and his brother, Mike Baker.
The family would like to thank all those who have offered their love, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
A visitation in Larry’s honor will be Monday June 15, 2026, from 9-11:00 am with service beginning at 11:00 am and Pastor Denny Wilson officiating at the Warsaw Community Church, 1855 South County Farm Road, Warsaw, IN 46580.
