John W. Caster, 88, of Grace Village Suite #25 Grace Village Retirement Community Winona Lake, Indiana, died on 10/10/2009 at 12:00 PM at Ball Memorial Hospital Muncie, Indiana. He was born on July 20, 1921 in Delaware County, Indiana. John was born July 20, 1921 in Delaware County, Indiana, to Lawrence Edgar and Florence (Bullock) Caster. He is formerly of North Webster, Indiana, Courts of Colfax, Warsaw, Indiana, and Grace Village, Winona Lake, Indiana. John married Betty Lee Stover on September 25, 1941, in Richmond, Indiana. She preceded him in death on June 3, 2007. John was the former owner of Barbee Hardware Store, North Webster, Indiana, for 25 years and Caster Crafts Woodworking Products. He was also employed by Zimmer, Inc., Warsaw, Indiana, as a Corporate Pilot. John held his private pilot's license since 1957. He was a 50 year member of The American Legion Post 253, North Webster, Indiana; a 50 year member of Cromwell Lodge FAM No. 705; and The Fort Wayne Valley Scottish Rite. He also faithfully served his country in The U.S. Navy in The Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII from 1941-1945 as an Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class. He is survived by 3 nephews: Rodney (Darlene) Phillips, Muncie, Indiana; Tom (Jean) Meeks of San Francisco, California; and Jay Phillips, Port St. John, Florida - 2 nieces: Joyce (Eugene) Tapy of Albany, Indiana; and Roseanne Negele of Boston, Massachusetts. John was also preceded in death by two sisters. Services will be held at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel - Warsaw on Thursday, October 15 at 11:00 a.m.. Calling hours will be 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery - Warsaw, IN. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel - Warsaw is in charge of arrangements.
