John Robert Russell

John Robert Russell, 69 of Silver Lake, Indiana passed away at 2:00 am Sunday, October 5, 2014 in his residence. On September 21, 1945, he was born in Detroit, Michigan to Albert and Mary Kathleen (Savage) Russell. He was united in marriage to Shirley Miller Yount on June 21, 1974 in Peru, Indiana, who survives. John was a 1963 graduate of Catholic Central High School, Detroit, Michigan, and briefly attended the Jesuit Seminary following high school. He graduated from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio in 1967. John had lived in the Silver Lake area for the last thirty eight years. He was semi-retired as a self-employed owner and builder. He built and managed apartments. He attended Warsaw Community Church, Warsaw. John is survived by his wife of forty years, Shirley Russell, Silver Lake; two daughters, Susan (and husband Terry) Schoettmer and Tina M. Prater, Warsaw; his son, Matthew John (and wife Lynda) Vivian, Plymouth, Michigan; his sister, Marilyn (and husband Rick) Ross, Simpsonville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Levi, Brandin, Bradey, Ariel, Brooklynn, Fischer and Lola; and his cousin, Mary Sue (and husband Mark) Veltman, Fenton, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Russell, his mother, Mary Kathleen Russell Barko and his brother, Richard Russell. A funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, October 9, 2014 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Pastor Jeff Pfeifer officiating. Burial will be privately held in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake. Visitation hours will be from 11:00 – 1:00 pm Thursday, October 9, 2014 in the funeral chapel.
