John R Wiles

John R. Wiles, 85, peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday evening June 28, 2023. He was the best husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He was born in Flora, Indiana on June 24, 1938 to Thurman and Zelda (Clawson) Wiles. He graduated from Flora High School with the class of 1957.

At a local roller-skating rink in Logansport, Indiana, John would lay eyes on a beautiful lady, Donna Jean Fawley. On October 4, 1959 in Flora, Indiana, John took Donna as his bride. They would share 63 years together of love, laughs and memories.

Shortly after, John enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought during the Vietnam War in Special Forces. He was Honorably Discharged in 1962 and the couple would make Warsaw their home and raise two daughters.

John worked as a meatcutter for Kroger, A&P, Jet White and E&M grocery stores. He was always a hard worker and liked what he did.

He enjoyed retirement with his wife, traveling many places and going on cruises. He loved living on the lake and going out on the water. He was a master with his hands and could build just about anything. John enjoyed golfing but above all, he cherished being with family and friends.

The couple attended First Christian Church in Flora. John was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliary in Warsaw.

John is survived by his loving wife, Donna, and their children: Tammy (Ed) Boggs of Warsaw and Cheryl (Mike) Lennon of Ft. Wayne; grandsons: Ian (Marissa) Lennon, Jonathan Boggs, Matthew Boggs, Nicholas (fiancé Victoria Sanz) Lennon and Thomas Boggs; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Mackinzie, Carson, J.J. and Brighton; sister, LaVern “Babe” (Dick) VonAhrens and sister-in-law, Nadine Wiles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Burl, Huey, Ivan and Moris Lee.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 5, 2023 from 10-12 p.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. Funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor Reg Overstreet officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
