John I. Long, 73, passed away in his home with his family at Thursday evening July 23, 2026.
Born in Wolf Lake, Indiana on April 14, 1953, John was the son of John R. Long and Janet R. (Yoder) Crowell.
In Columbia City on February 14, 1998, John took Sharon K. Davis as his wife.
John worked for Seymour Midwest in Warsaw as a machine operator in production until his retirement. He was a handyman and enjoyed doing side jobs in his free time for others.
A simple man raised in the Baptist faith, John enjoyed hunting, working on cars and being home.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, and children: Sherry (William) Hardesty of New Paris, Jennifer (Chad) Hull of Columbia City and Glen (Michelle) Ashby of Dunnellon, FL; 10 grandchildren: Shasta Bear, Andrea Perkins, Jeremy (Conner) Grumme, Amanda Sturgis, Justin Hall, Jeremy Hall, William Leeka, Gregory Ashby, Keynna Vickers and Braxton Ashby; 9 grandchildren: Brooklyn Sloan, Madison, Easton and Lydia Childs, Brantly Hall, Lucas, Chase and Bryson Sturgis and Zarina Vickers; and siblings: Richard, Roger, Gover, Diana and Pam.
John was welcomed into heaven by his great-granddaughter, Bristol Bear, and his daughters, Glenna Waldenville and Sunshine Kyler.
Per his wishes, cremation will take place.
