Jerry F. Kreger, 66, of Pierceton, IN passed away in his home on Wednesday, February 11th leaving behind a lifetime of memories spent with family and friends, and several years of stewardship serving his community.
Jerry leaves behind his wife Dawn D. (Freds) Kreger, five combined children and ten grandchildren. The couple dated for several years during high school and were reunited seven years ago, marrying in 2022. Jerry has two daughters, Shelby L Pentz (Haddonfield, NJ) and Kelsey K Kreger, (Pierceton) and three stepchildren Michael D Flynn (Ossian), Meghan R Mills (Fort Wayne) and Matthew R Flynn (West Palm Beach, FL). The couple have welcomed an additional six grandchildren since their marriage, for a total of ten in all. Jerry considered his grandchildren one of his greatest blessings, sleepovers at Grandpa's house happened often; and in summer you could see the family tooling around town on their golf cart. His grandson says that Grandpa was a great man but a terrible UNO player.
Jerry was preceded in death by both of his parents Jerry A. and Joyce A. Kreger, his brother Rex D. (Laura) in 2012 (Noblesville, IN). He is survived by one sister, Susan J. Peck (Greg) of Leo, IN. Jerry graduated from Whitko High School in 1977 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1982. He made his living for over thirty years restoring and painting vehicles for Warsaw GMC. Before retiring, he worked for Painters Supply & Equipment Company in Warsaw as their Business Manager.
Jerry lived in Pierceton his entire life and was most proud of his participation in community activities. He served as a volunteer fireman with the Pierceton Fire Dept. for almost thirty years, receiving the Fireman of the Year award in 2013. He was a Town Council member for sixteen years, serving as Town Clerk from 2016-20. He coached the Warsaw Little Tigers Football League for many years as well and absolutely loved when he would run into one of his "kids" who still called him "Coach".
Jerry was heavily involved in serving with his friends and brothers in the Shrine and Masons. For forty-five years, he upheld the ideals put forth by these clubs and he took seriously the work he did with them. He began his journey back in 1980 when he joined the Blue Lodge #377 in Pierceton, serving as Master of the Lodge in 1986, 1995, and 2008.
In December of 1980 he became a Noble of Mizpah Shrine; and for the past 45 years has been a member of the Kosciusko County Shrine, serving as Club Treasurer for several years. He was involved in the Hillbillies, the Kosciusko Minibike Association, Samsar, and Car Club. He was member of Bartimaeus Lodge, a special lodge devoted to assisting individuals with physical issues in completing their degree work. He served as a Potentate's Aide in 2017 and 2021.
He belonged to the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite as well and was presented with his MSA (Meritorious Service Award) in 2010. He gained his 33rd degree in 2021. He served the Valley as Most Wise Master of the Emanuel Chapter of Rose Croix from 2016-18 and Hospitalier from 2019-2025.
Jerry was a good man. He had a good heart. He was always ready with a joke or smile to lift someone's day. He was loved by almost all who knew him and liked by quite a few people too. He knew what it meant to be a faithful servant. For those family members and friends left behind, he will be sorely missed but they rejoice knowing he is with the Lord in Heaven, and that one day they will see him again.
A visitation in Jerry’s honor will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 2-6:00 pm, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, Indiana. A masonic service will be conducted then the funeral service will follow with Pastor Rob Neel officiating. A private burial is to be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
