Jean Adele DeVries, 83, of Winona Lake passed away May 29, 2017 in Kosciusko Community Hospital. On March 19, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois she was born to Gerhard and Phoebe (Norman) Van Kovering. On August 14, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois she was united in marriage to Harold DeVries who survives. She graduated from Purdue University with a degree in education and taught 4th and 5th grade at Nathan Hale School in Lansing, Illinois. Moving to Winona Lake in 1974 she then taught Adult Basic Education in Warsaw. She also ran the Day Care Center at Pete Thorn Center and the South Detroit Street location where she interacted with 500 plus children daily. She enjoyed antiques and antique auctions and ran the Warsaw Antique Shop in Warsaw; she enjoyed selling antiques on EBay. She enjoyed swimming and boating on Winona Lake. She is survived by her husband and her sons; Dan Alan DeVries of Indianapolis and Dennis (and spouse Tammy) DeVries of Auburn, Alabama. She is further survived by three grandchildren; Stephen (and spouse Annie) DeVries of Birmingham, Alabama, Zachary (and spouse Mary Ann) DeVries of Raleigh, North Carolina and Emily DeVries of Birmingham, Alabama and one great granddaughter: Lily DeVries of Birmingham, Alabama. A funeral service will be held on Saturday June 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw with Reverend Thomas Avey officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Burial will be at a later date.
