Obituary

Janet C. Howard Chiddister, 84, passed away peacefully at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne on Tuesday, November 24, 2025.

Born in Warsaw, Indiana on July 24, 1941, Janet was the daughter of Boyce and Helen (Fisher) Howard and grew up in Winona Lake. She graduated from Warsaw High School with the class of 1959 and enjoyed being in the high school choir.

She married Jimmy Ray Chiddister in Goshen, Indiana. They moved, along with her son Rodney, and built a house on Lake Tippecanoe (James Lake) in the early 70s. Janet enjoyed many days skiing on the lake. She worked as a switchboard operator and then as a secretary for Goshen Rubber and Counting House Bank of North Webster. After their divorce, she and Rodney moved to Warsaw in the 80s. In Warsaw, she worked for Zimmer as an executive secretary and the Kosciusko County Courthouse in the auditor’s office, until her retirement.

Janet very much enjoyed playing bridge with friends in Goshen and later in Warsaw. She was a member of the Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church and was in the choir.

She is dearly missed by her son, Rodney Chiddister of Warsaw; sister-in-law, Sue Howard; nieces and nephew: Michelle R. (Joel) Roberson, Brooke L. Bennett Lincoln D. (Marisa) Howard and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dan Howard in 2012.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 from 9:30-11 a.m. at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 S. High Street, Warsaw. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the church with Pastor Aaron Klein officiating.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
