Helen E. Deatsman, 94, of Winona Lake, Indiana and formerly of Leesburg, Indiana, died on 4/26/2009 at 8:09 pm at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, Indiana. She was born on December 20, 1914 in Warsaw, Indiana. Helen was the daughter of Harry and Hazel (Smith) Beatty. She married Walter R. Deatsman on October 13, 1947 in Leesburg, Indiana. He preceded her in death in 1985.She was raised on a farm outside of Leesburg where she and Walter also farmed and raised their family. She worked for Peoples State Bank, where she retired after many years of work.Helen was a lifelong member of Leesburg United Methodist Church, Leesburg and enjoyed singing in the choir. She graduated from Leesburg High School in 1932. She also was a member of Lydia Circle, Dorcas Sewing Circle and a former member of Tri Arts Club and Delta Theta Tau Sorority.Upon retirement, she and Walter moved to Tippecanoe River in Oswego where they loved the friendship of the River's Neighbors. From her porch, she enjoyed many hours of waving at boaters and watching ducks and geese swim and feed. She also spent many winters in Stuart, Florida where she made friends from many states that she later would love to write.Helen is survived by a Daughter; Gene (and spouse Chuck) Marshall, Leesburg, Indiana2 Sons; Ross (and spouse Lana) Deatsman Max (and spouse Gina) Deatsman both of Leesburg, IndianaShe had 6 Grandchildren; Trishell (and spouse Jim) SmithKim (and spouse Jason) BledsoeBen DeatsmanJoy (and spouse Luke) LauritsenBrian (and spouse Janelle) DeatsmanRenee Deatsman and fiance Quentin Overbeck.She also had 5 Great Grandchildren;Kerstin and Haley BledsoeZack and Isabelle SmithColin Deatsman. Services will be held at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, Indiana on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 11:00 am with Pastor Mike Heath Officiating.. Calling hours will be 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral chapel on Wednesday, April 28, 2009. Burial will be at Leesburg Cemetery, Leesburg, Indiana. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, Indiana is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Leesburg United Methodist Church, 111 West Prairie Street, Leesburg, Indiana 46538 or to Leesburg Lions Club.
