George Oliver Vitaniemi, age 79, of Warsaw, Indiana passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 6:24 AM in his residence. He was born on January 14, 1940 in Clinton, Indiana to William and Ann (Secoy) Vitaniemi. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of 55 years. He was united in marriage to Barbara (Evans) Vitaniemi on December 19,1964. He graduated from Clinton High School and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana State in 1964 along with a Master’s Degree in Education from Ball State in 1968. During his life he was a High School Teacher for a total of 35 years. He worked at Centerville High School, Griffith Community Schools, then Wawasee Community Schools retiring in 1999 after 28 years. He was a member of Indiana State Teachers Association for 35 years. He attended the First United Methodist Warsaw Church. He is survived by his wife; Barbara of Warsaw, daughter; Ann Marie (Tim) Mangas of Warsaw, son; Jon (Kathleen) Vitaniemi of Manclova, Ohio, sisters; Darlene Hoggatt and Janice Bonebreak both of Clinton, a brother; William Vitaniemi of Clinton, grandchildren; Jake and Kyle Mangas, of Warsaw, John Brennan and Patrick Vitaniemi of Manclova, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Albert and David and a sister Diana Sillotto. Services will be private, with Pastor Brian Smith officiating.
