Frederick Eugene “Cricket” Kammerer, 84 of Leesburg, Indiana, passed away at 1:30 pm on Saturday, June 25, 2011 in Lakeland Rehabilitation Center, Milford, Indiana. On December 5, 1926, Frederick was born to Chris and Ida (Anglin) Kammerer in Leesburg, Indiana. He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He married Maxine Sand on January 6, 1961 in Folksten, Georgia. He worked as a truck driver for Kosciusko County Highway Department for 26 years and then he worked 12 more years part time for the Highway Department. Frederick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1944 - 1946. He was a lifetime member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church as well as a member of the American Legion Post #49, Warsaw, Masonic Lodge, Warsaw and Kosciusko County Shrine Club. Frederick was a past member of Leesburg Fire Department. Frederick was a member of the McDonalds Lunch Group that met at the McDonalds on U.S. 30 and he loved to ride his horse and carriage in parades and for weddings. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maxine Kammerer, Leesburg; 1 sister, Peggy (and spouse Dick) Klopenstein, Leesburg; 2 nieces, Tamara Klopenstein, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Tracie (and spouse Bill) McGee, Greenville, North Carolina and a great nephew, Tyler Charlton, Nashville, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by a step son, Gordon Sand. There are no services or visitation planned. Burial will be at Leesburg Cemetery at a later date. The family requests memorial contributions are to be made to American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, Illinois 60674 or to Leesburg United Methodist Church, 111 West Prairie Street, Leesburg, Indiana 46538.
