Fern M. Hartman

September 7, 1921 — August 28, 2024

Fern Mildred Hartman, 102, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August

28,2024 of natural causes at Grace Village Health Care in Winona Lake, IN, where

she had been living and cared for since 2016. Fern was born one of 7 children to

Joseph K. and Oma (Breden) Myers on September 7, 1921, in Elkhart, IN.

Fern was raised in the Elkhart and Osceola area, where she met her husband John

Hartman while working at a restaurant in downtown Elkhart. They were married

on September 25, 1949.


Fern dedicated her life to God and her children and was her husband’s number

one cheerleader as he attended Grace College and Seminary and then entered

the ministry. When he retired, she happily joined him in campground ministries

between Michigan and Florida. Fern loved music throughout her entire life. From

singing in the church as a young child to sharing a song with her husband that

could be enjoyed by the campgrounds, Fern always had a song in heart and was

ready to sing along with you.


Preceding Fern in death: her loving husband of 68 yrs, John, her parents Joseph K

and Oma (Breden) Myers, and all 6 of her siblings Calvin Myers, Geraldine

(Howard(d)) Held, Joseph (Jean) Myers, Richard (June(d)) Myers, George

(Florence) Myers, and Inabelle (Nobel Jr. (d)) Detwiler.


Fern is survived in death by her 2 children Pam (Paul) Larson and Larry A.

(Teresa) Hartman; grandchildren: Benjamin (Melissa) Larson and Stephanie

Larson, and 5 great grandchildren: Cole Guzman, Rianna Larson, Lielle Larson,

Cassadee Humphry, and Anastasia Larson; and many nieces and nephews, and

extended family.


On Sat. Sept. 14,2024, family and friends are welcome to attend the burial of her

ashes at Osceola Cemetery County Line Rd. Elkhart, IN at 11:00 am. followed by a

Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm in the Grace Village Chapel at Grace Village

Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Dr. Winona Lake, IN 46590. A time of

food and fellowship to follow the service.
