Ernest Gene Blanton

E. Gene Blanton passed away on March 15, 2025, in Claypool, Indiana. He was born on January 25, 1944, in Jennys Creek, Leander, Kentucky, to the late Estill and Dorothy (Caudill) Blanton.

At the age of 15 he came to Warsaw from Kentucky. On October 3, 1962, he married the love of his life Mary Sue Hopkins in Paintsville, Kentucky. They spent 58 years together before her passing in 2020, making many memories and raising their wonderful children.

Gene made his way to Dalton Foundry as a coremaker. He had to take an early retirement at the young age of 48 due to a lung cancer diagnosis. After surgery and treatment, he stayed cancer free for 30 plus years. Since his retirement he had enjoyed many wonderful days fishing and playing his guitar. His favorite hobby, however, was keeping his lawn looking immaculate and riding on his lawn mower. He was always a hard worker. His presence undoubtedly left an impact on those who knew him.

He is survived by daughters; Tammie (Jackie) Rich of Claypool, Candi Kayler Claypool, and sons; Roger (Lesa) Blanton of Etna Green, and Ron (Carla) Blanton of Pierceton. One of his greatest joys were his 18 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife Mary Sue, and two sons: Brandon L. Blanton and Danny Blanton, as well as his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Visitation will be held On Friday March 21st, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with services to follow at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels Warsaw, Indiana, with Pastor Terry Bradford officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery Silver Lake, Indiana.
