Edward Owen FoxFebruary 20, 1931-January 31, 2014 Edward Owen Fox, MD, died peacefully January 31, 2014, after a long illness. The beloved husband of Janice Ann (Lambert) Fox, he was a devoted grandfather and an enthusiastic supporter of his daughters and their children. He asked little from those who loved him, but reveled instead in the knowledge that they were well and living the lives he had hoped for them. Dr. Fox was born and raised in Worcester, MA, and attended the College of the Holy Cross on scholarship. After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in Classics, he attended the Yale School of Medicine where he served as a Fellow in the Department of Microbiology and an Investigator in the Howard Hughes Medical Research Institute. Dr. Fox completed his internship at the Bellevue Hospital in New York City before serving as a resident in pathology at University of Arkansas where he joined Dr. Hans Schlumberger in research of malignant pituitary tumor. Dr. Fox continued this research at Harvard Medical School through a grant from the American Cancer Institute. During these years, Dr. Fox also completed residencies at the Veterans Administrative Hospital of West Roxbury (where he later served as Chief of Pathology) and the Free Hospital for Women. He also served as an instructor at Harvard Medical School and a Senior Fellow at the National Cancer Institute. In 1996, he was awarded the Chairman’s Award from the Warren County chapter of the American Cancer Society for his work in the diagnosis and assessment of the prognosis of tumors and cancers. After a career that included work at the Peter Bent Brigham (MA), Franklin County Hospital (MA), and the Hackettstown Community Hospital (NJ), Dr. Fox retired in 1996 and moved to Warsaw, Indiana where he enjoyed the quiet beauty of Winona Lake with his beloved wife, Jan. Dr. Fox is survived by his wife, his two daughters, Leslie Fox Farrington (Los Gatos, CA), and Clare Fox Ringwall (Acton, MA), his brother, Thomas R. Fox (Silver Spring, MD), and his grandchildren: Dana Fox Farrington, Clare Julia Farrington, Owen Fox Ringwall, Robert William Ringwall, and Joseph Edward McGinley; his step children, Judy Mollenhour, Julie McGinley and Bret Mollenhour. He is predeceased by his son, Edward Owen Fox, Jr., and brother, James H. Fox. Dr. Fox’s life will be celebrated privately at a later date.
