Eddie D. Dawson, 76, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Born in Sterns, Kentucky, on November 29, 1949, Eddie was the son of Ray and Geneva (Smith) Dawson. He graduated from McCreary High School and then chose to serve with the McCreary County Fire Department for 2 years fighting fires.
The family would move to Warsaw in 1974 when Eddie began working for Dalton Foundry. He worked as a laborer and drove the hoist truck for 38 years until his retirement. Eddie enjoyed the yearly Dalton Club outings where he participated in their bowling and took 1st place many times in golf. His love for sports carried onto his boys where they basically grew up on the softball field as well as him being in basketball rec leagues and golf leagues.
Eddie was a huge Chicago Bears fan and was able to watch their victory this past Saturday. He was a quiet man after retirement and enjoyed his time alone. He had a good sense of humor and was great at bad dad jokes.
He is missed dearly by his companion of 40 years, Rita Sloderbeck, of Warsaw; his sons: Eddie “Tyler” Dawson of Mentone, Darryl (Amy) Dawson of Churubusco and Mike (Misty) Dawson of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
