Donald P. “Phil” Stiver, 80, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025 at Kindred Hospital-Indianapolis.
Phil was born on October 14, 1944 in Warsaw, Indiana, the oldest of three born to Donald Earl and Mary Ruth (Wiggins) Stiver. He graduated from Warsaw High School.
He would take as his wife, Larvonnia Sue Jackson, on March 18, 1965. They would take a time of separation and re-marry on May 22, 1997 in Warsaw.
Phil worked as a heavy machine operator foreman for Phend & Brown Inc. in Milford until his retirement. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 150 for 35 years.
When he wasn’t working, “Dozer Phil” as he was affectionately called, loved to piddle around the farm and playing with his “toys”. He enjoyed coyote hunting and fishing on his pond he created. Sue and he would go to Florida every January to get away from the cold of Indiana. The couple also used to bowl at Gilliam Lanes, now Warsaw Bowl, with good friends.
He was a strong man, a family man and full of knowledge. He was his daughter’s Mr. Fix-It, and was always very patient when he was showing his children and grandchildren how to do things. A trait they want to keep in the family, being patient, compassionate and slow to anger. He was selfless and never knew a stranger. A huge cup of coffee and a good conversation with family or friends, always made his day.
Phil is survived by his wife, Sue, and their daughter, Jennifer (Sherlock) Harrison, all of Warsaw; grandchildren: Brooklyn Harrison, Taylor Stiver, Bishop (Abria) Harrison, Brielle Harrison, Tanner Stiver and Braisha Harrison and one great-grandchild on the way; brother, Kevin (Susan) Stiver of Goshen; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, David Stiver in 2017 and Tom Stiver in 2024; and his sister, Berta Gayheart in May of 2025.
