Donald ‘Bub’ Leroy Morris, of Claypool, passed away on July 18, 2026, at Grace Village Retirement, Winona Lake, Indiana at the age of 85.
Don came into the world on January 16, 1941, to Pauline McFarland Morris and Donald H. Morris, on his dad’s 31st birthday in their home near Beaver Dam, IN.
Donnie, as his mother called him, ran track, played baseball and basketball before graduating from Claypool High School in 1959. He furthered his education at International Business College in Ft. Wayne. He worked at Weather Head in Columbia City, Parker Feeders in Silver Lake and enjoyed 40 years at R. R. Donnelley & Sons in Warsaw.
Don and Donna Short eloped to Wise, VA on December 24, 1960. They raised two sons and shared 65 years of marriage while living near Claypool. He attended Claypool United Methodist Church. Don was a 61-year member of Claypool Lions Club. Don was inducted into the Kosciusko Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. He was also a member of the Clay Township Advisory Board and a volunteer Claypool Fireman.
Bub enjoyed traveling, playing golf, winning in cards, mowing lawns, helping others and fox or coyote hunting with his sons, grandson and friends. He never missed a sporting event his sons or grandkids were participating in.
Bub is survived by his wife Donna and sons: Dale (Sue) Morris; Dean (Liz) Morris, Warsaw; granddaughters: Shanda (Brian) Armbruster, Millersburg; Kortni (Kane) Wu, Bedford, VA; and grandsons: Cameron (Brooke) Morris, Warsaw; Kyle (Sophie) Morris, Indianapolis; and great grandchildren: Caleb Armbruster, Goshen, Chloe Armbruster, Elkhart, Reese, Ellis and Silas Wu, Bedford, VA and great great granddaughter: Everly Ambruster, Syracuse, sister: Marcille Carter, Louisiana. Bub’s sister-in-law, Sharodene Morris, Pierceton and many treasured nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive.
He was preceded by his parents, brother Richard “Dick” Morris, brother-in- law Jim Carter and nephew Doug Carter, his sister and brother-in-law Connie (David) LaRue.
A visitation in honor of Bub will take place at the Claypool Lions Club 201 W. Calhoun St. on Sunday July 26, 2026, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. A celebration of life service will be at 3:00 pm with Pastor Diane Quance officiating. An ice cream social event will follow the service. Burial will be at a later date at Graceland Claypool Cemetery.
