Debra Ann (Black) Johnson, 67, of Warsaw, passed away surrounded by family on April 5, 2024 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.
Deb was born on January 19, 1957, in Warsaw, Indiana, and graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1975. She was a hardworking member of the Warsaw High School Band, in which she won multiple awards for clarinet. She was married to Alan G. Johnson on January 4, 1976, and they shared 48 loving years together. She attended Ivy Tech Community College to obtain her Certified Dietary Manager certification. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Warsaw.
Throughout her life she worked at Murphy Medical Center, Top of the Inn restaurant, L.M. Berry, Johnson Ceramics, Danner’s 3D, Warsaw Freshman High School cafeteria, Kosciusko Community Hospital, the Kosciusko County Health Department, and Johnson Electronics. She was both a highly-decorated Girl Scout and Girl Scout Troop Leader, as well as an active member of the Indiana Army National Guard Family Readiness Group. She also faithfully supported her husband Al through 23 years of military service.
Debbie was a loving and doting mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, who will be sorely missed and remembered for her unparalleled kindness. Her hobbies included gardening, camping, quilting, canning, sewing, and spending time with her three beautiful granddaughters who were her pride and joy. Deb was a selfless and devoted friend who dedicated herself to tending to the needs of others. She could often be found sharing her delicious cooking and baking with others, tending to her vegetables and flowers, and watching General Hospital. She was a lifelong lover of music and often found joy in singing. Debbie was a warm-hearted, compassionate woman who charmed everyone she met. Her laughter was infectious and her smile could light up a whole room. Her strength and steadfastness through the trials and tribulations of life will forever be remembered by her family.
She is survived by her husband, Alan G. Johnson; sisters, Marcia (Joseph) Sanburn, Connie (Lance) Bell, Kathy (Brent) Lursen; brother-in-law, Bernie Loer; one daughter, Jamie (Bill) Norris; and granddaughters Lora, Kaley, and Megan Kuhaneck.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marjorie L. (Zorn) Black and Ray G. Black; sisters, Judith E. Loer and Sharon K. Egolf; brothers Danny Black, Larry M. Black, and Gary L. Black; and brothers-in-law Lance Bell and Max Egolf.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 10-12 p.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Home, 2290 Provident Ct, Warsaw. Funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor Glenn Hall officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
