Following a brief illness, Daniel Lee Lowman, 91 of Winona Lake, Indiana was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Dan was born in Warsaw, Indiana on February 12, 1934, the son of Samuel M. and Thelma F. (Paulus) Lowman.
Dan grew up in Warsaw and was a 1952 graduate of Warsaw High School where he participated in football and band.
Dan attended Purdue University before going to work on the family farm. He then worked as a mail carrier for the United States Post Office and later worked in sales at Warsaw Chemical Company.
On August 3, 1957 Dan was united in marriage to Rosemarie Hill in Winona Lake. Dan and Rose raised one wonderful child and three others during nearly 45 years together. In 1974, they started Lowman's Rug Service and worked together in the industrial laundry business until their retirement in 1991. During retirement they enjoyed traveling around the country in their motorcoach. They made many life long friends along the way.
Dan was a past member of the Masonic Lodge #73, Kosciusko County Mizpah Shrine, Shrine minibike patrol, Scottish Rite, Kosciusko County Board of Health, and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He loved motorcycling and proudly rode his 2008 Honda Gold Wing over 240,000 miles. Dan also enjoyed flying his Cessna 180 and had his private pilot license with the instrument endorsement.
Dan spent many years in Port Orange, Florida with his late companion Linda J. MacDonald (2020) before returning to Winona Lake in 2024.
The loving memory of Dan will be forever cherished by his three other children; Rhonda (Todd) Deaton, Lynda (Tony) Miller of Warsaw, and Michael (Shari Gibson) Lowman of Yelm, Washington; five grandchildren, Sheena (Nate) White, Blake Deaton of Warsaw, Haley (David) White of Sitka, Alaska, Chase (Megan) Deaton of Leesburg, Indiana, and Kristin (Josh) Blount of Ardmore, Oklahoma; thirteen great-grandchildren, Parker Deaton, Johanna White, William White, Ryan Carnes, Roman Deaton of Warsaw, Reid Deaton of Terre Haute, Indiana, Gwen White, Alice White of Sitka, Paul Deaton, Owen Deaton, Charlotte Deaton of Leesburg, Jonathan Blount and Noah Blount of Ardmore.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Samuel M. Lowman (1991), Thelma F. Lowman (1961); his brother Lt. Samuel (Bud) Lowman, Jr. (1944); his wife Rosemarie (Hill) Lowman (2002); his one wonderful child Pamela M. Plesher (2021); his granddaughter Meghan M. Miller (1995); and his great-grandson Jakob D. Blount (2011).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 3p.m., at the chapel at Grace Village Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, IN 46590.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dan’s honor may be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707.
