Betty J. Skees

May 10, 1931 — January 30, 2024

Betty J. Skees, 92, peacefully passed away with her loving family around her bedside at 11:33 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

Betty was born on May 10, 1931 in Atwood, Indiana to Minnie May (Scheoff) and Clarence Huffman. She graduated from Atwood High School.

She married John R. Skees Jr. on December 10, 1951. They would welcome six children, before his early passing in 1974. Betty was a strong woman with a strong faith and did everything she needed to raise her children and treasured watching her family grow. She attended Aldergate United Methodist Church in Atwood.

Betty was a Warsaw schools bus driver for many years. When the children were on her bus she treated them as her own kids, making sure they were always safe and cared for. When she lived in South Carolina for a short while, she worked as a nanny and as a greenhouse worker. Moving back to the Warsaw area, Betty would lastly work as a maid and cleaning Mutual Federal Bank.

She then spent all her undivided love and attention with her family and grandchildren. They were her world. She enjoyed watching the birds from her deck and watching the traffic go through Atwood. She also developed a need for trips to the casino after her fun trip to Las Vegas.

Betty is survived by her children: Rick Skees of Atwood, Stephen (Melody) Skees of Atwood, Kerry Skees of Warsaw, Pamela Wagner of Spartanburg, SC, Kelly (Kenneth) Newsome of Warsaw and Troy (Karey Ann) Skees of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, a brother and two sisters, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
