Benjamin “Mark” Crump, a beloved husband, father, and papaw, unexpectedly departed this life on September 15, 2025 to meet his Lord and Savior, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith.
Ben was known as a hardworking man and a devoted provider. He took pride in caring for his family, ensuring they always felt secure and supported. As a husband, father, and papaw, he set an example of loyalty and responsibility that will be cherished for generations.
He had a wonderful sense of humor that made everyone smile. His grandchildren will always remember how he would pay them a dollar to rub his feet, or how he’d come home after a late shift with McDonald’s in hand at 11 o’clock at night. He also loved telling his grandchildren crazy stories about how he lost his fingers—claiming they were bitten off by a shark or blown off by a grenade—keeping them laughing and entertained for years.
Ben enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved playing his guitar, watching Fox News, and streaming movies and fights on his Firestick. His faithful dog Pierre was never far from his side. In 2015, Ben gave his life to the Lord, getting saved and baptized, a moment of faith that gave him peace and strength. Up until his accident he was a beloved greeter at Walmart, known as “Uncle Ben”.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Crump; his children, Stephanie and Dan Wadkins, Jerad and Karla Crump, Justin Crump, and Matthew and Amanda Crump; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathy and Bert Ousley, and Robin and Ronnie Thompson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Louise Witzkey Lash and his beloved dog Pierre.
Those who knew Ben will remember him as a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and filled the lives of his family with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories. His presence will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Visitation will be held from 10-12 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court. Funeral services will follow at noon in the chapel with Pastor Rob Cover officiating.
