Robert G. Sanders, 69 of Warsaw, Indiana, passed away at 7:17 a.m. Sunday, May 14, 2017, in Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. On July 6, 1947, he was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Albert J. and Jacqueline (Perry) Sanders. He was united in marriage to Sharon (Stroud) Hile on March 28, 1981 in Warsaw, who survives. Formerly of Lawrence, he moved to Warsaw in 1979. Bob was co-owner and President of Bodkin Abstract located in Warsaw, Syracuse, Albion and Wabash. He served his country from 1966 to 1970 honorably in the United States Air Force receiving the rank of Sergeant (E-4) during the Vietnam Conflict. He was the former Affiliate of the Year for the Kosciusko Board of Realtors; longtime Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund Board Member; former Aviation Board Member for the Warsaw Municipal Airport; a member of F.A.M. Lodge #73 Warsaw; Scottish Rite, Fort Wayne Valley, Mizpah Shrine Temple, Fort Wayne and the Kosciusko Shrine Club, and Warsaw American Legion Post#49. Other notable achievements include, serving as Past President of Indiana Land Title Association, a member of the Kosciusko County and Fulton County Builders Association, Kosciusko County Republican Party where he received the “Man of the Year” award and was awarded the “The Man of the Year Award” from the Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce. He was elected to the office of Kosciusko County Councilman in 2005 to present. He has served as President since 2013. During his tenure on the Council he was appointed to serve on the following: the Board of Directors to Kosciusko Economic Development Corp., the Michiana Area Council Government, the Lakeland Regional Sewer District and the Kosciusko Area Plan Commission. He was also involved in numerous public, civic and community service organizations. Bob was an avid private pilot for over thirty years and the owner and driver of car #29 in Legend Car Circuit Racing participating in Charlotte, NC; Indianapolis, IN; Plymouth, IN and Michigan, winning several races. He is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Sharon Sanders, Warsaw; daughter, Jennifer Sanders, Indianapolis; two sons, Mark Hile, Warsaw and David Hile, Warsaw; six grandchildren, Brittany, Kimberly, Kennedy, Ashley, Eric and Kameron; five great grandchildren, Maddie, Alex, Nathan, Chloe and Kent; his mother, Jacqueline Sanders, Tampa, Florida; brother, John B. (Sue) Sanders, Wanamaker and his sister, Leona Zambrano, Tampa, Florida. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Warsaw Community Church, Warsaw, with Pastor Denny Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors provided by American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126 both of Warsaw and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation hours will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Memorial contributions may be made to Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund C/O K21 Health Foundation 2170 North Pointe Drive Warsaw, Indiana 46582.
