Philip Lincoln Porter

Philip Lincoln Porter, 95, of Warsaw, passed away Tuesday July 12, 2022 at home. Phil was born in Avon Park, FL on February 12, 1927, the son of (the late) Raymond and Victoria (Smith) Porter. He joined the US Army in November 1945 and served in the Military Police, stationed in Salzburg, Austria, as a railroad guard and escorting military trains safely to their destinations. Phil separated from the Army in November 1946 and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and the Occupational Medal Austria. He married Dorothy (Vest) Porter in Lexington VA on August 12, 1956. After moving to Lansing IL, Phil served as past Commander of the Ehinger Bros, VFW Post 8141 in Calumet City and was active in the Sons of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and archery. He was employed at Ball Glass Corp. and in 1990 retired after 32 years with the company, moving to their current home on Chapman Lake where he could continue to enjoy fishing and also playing golf.  Racoon Run Golf Course was his regular Friday spot. Phil & Dorothy joined the American Legion Post #49 in Warsaw, where Phil became active with the Honor Guard & firing squad, proudly serving at the funerals of our veterans, even when he had to miss his golf game. On May 28, 2014, Phil was accompanied by his son Jon, and was able to participate in the Veteran’s Honor Flight to Washington DC to tour the memorials dedicated to our veteran’s sacrifice & service to their country. On November 16, 2016, in a ceremony at the Pete Thorn Center, Phil was presented a beautiful handmade quilt from the Quilts of Valor Foundation, awarded to those Service Members and Veterans who have been touched by war. In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his brothers, Grady Porter and Harold Porter. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Porter; their sons, William Porter of Warsaw and Jon (Susan) Porter of Lansing IL; grandchildren, Billy Porter of Madison WI, Shawn Porter of Lebanon TN, Diana (Troy) Kreiger of Pewaukee WI, Alia (Charlie) Randham of Cedar Lake, Bryan (Jamie) Porter of Portage, Nikki (Alex) Kasher of Lowell and his great-grandchildren, Shawn Porter and Alex Porter in Tennessee, Molly Waterstreet of Pewaukee  WI, Robbie Randham of Cedar Lake and Emily & Rebecca Kasher, both of Lowell. Funeral Services 3:00 Saturday July 16, 2022 in McHatton Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Ct. with Pastor Michael Smith officiating. Visitation from 1-3pm Saturday in the funeral home.
