Omer “Skip” Kindig, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio. He moved there from Rochester, Indiana within the last year to live closer to his daughter and family.
Skip was born in Rochester, Indiana on October 22, 1932 to Oral B. “Hap” and Eva (Severns) Kindig. He graduated from Rochester High School with the class of 1951.
He enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and served as Staff Sargeant until his Honorable Discharge in 1956. Skip was on a B-36 Peacemaker flight crew as the tail gunner. The B-36 was the largest mass-produced piston-engine aircraft ever built. After serving, he would come back home and attend ACME Technical Institute in South Bend, graduating in 1958. He was the Chief Engineer for Da-Light Screen Company for 33 years until his retirement.
Skip married a Rochester girl, Annette M. Sharpe, on July 6, 1958, and the couple would soon make Warsaw, Indiana their home. The couple had one daughter, Karen Kindig Smith.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Rochester and of the American Legion Post #49 in Warsaw and a member of the Tail Gunner’s Association for the Air Force.
Skip is dearly missed by his daughter, Karen and Tim Smith and family of Greenville OH, and his nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great- grandchildren from IN.
He was preceded in death by his wife Annette in 2022 and his parents.
A Visitation will be held at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw on Friday December 13, 2024 from 10:00 to 11 a.m.
A Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Josh Walker will be officiating.
Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, 620 N. 3rd Street, Rochester, IN.
